Another key trans activist who, along with Johnson, later founded STAR (Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries) to help homeless LGBTQ+ youth, particularly trans individuals who were largely overlooked by the mainstream gay rights movement of the time.

On June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in New York City, police raided a popular bar for LGBTQ+ people. While police raids were common, this time, the community fought back.
