At the beginning of the episode, Dee is in a state of total despair. She is seen eating out of a trash can and openly carrying a silver revolver tucked into her sweatpants.

When Frank and the others notice the gun, they are initially alarmed, but Dee casually dismisses their concerns, essentially using the weapon as a visual cue for how little she cares about her life or consequences anymore. [S9E1] The Gang Broke Dee

This "piece" is part of the episode's central plot where the Gang, seeing Dee at her absolute lowest, orchestrates an elaborate "long con" to trick her into believing she has become a successful stand-up comedian, only to reveal it was all a cruel prank at the very end.
