"I'm looking for recommendations," Elias said, his voice echoing.

Elias laid the note on the counter. The old man froze. He reached under the register and pulled out a volume with a plain black spine. There was no title, only a hand-drawn eye on the cover.

As Elias opened the first page, the ink began to swirl and lift off the paper, wrapping around his wrists like charcoal smoke. The shop began to dissolve into a landscape of white plains and rivers of liquid lead.

He looked down at the manga in his hands. The panels were changing in real-time, sketching a figure standing on a distant hill—a girl with his sister’s eyes, holding a pen like a sword. Underneath the drawing, a new speech bubble appeared, the ink still wet: “You’re late for the final chapter, Elias.”

"This was never serialized," the shopkeeper whispered. "It’s a story about a world where people's memories are stored in ink. If the book burns, the person is forgotten. Your sister didn't just read this, Elias. She was the one who wrote the ending."

"Most want the hits," the man rasped. "They want the fire-breathers or the high school romances. You look like you're looking for a ghost."
