Set roughly 15 years after The Road Warrior , Max is exiled into the Australian desert after a power struggle in the advanced, methane-powered settlement of . He is forced into gladiatorial combat in the Thunderdome , a metal cage arena governed by the law "Two men enter, one man leaves". After being banished once more, Max encounters a tribe of abandoned children who believe he is their legendary savior, "Captain Walker," destined to lead them to the promised land.
