The narrative centers on Spike’s fierce paternal protectiveness. While Spike is trying to get Tyke to nap, Tom and Jerry's usual chase disrupts their peace. After Tom accidentally wakes Tyke, Spike delivers a stern ultimatum: if Tom bothers the pup again, Spike will "tear him apart". Recognizing this new layer of protection, Jerry spends the rest of the short using Tyke as a literal shield, forcing Tom to employ increasingly absurd and underhanded tactics to lure the mouse away without alerting the doting father. The short concludes with Tom's defeat, forced to stand guard outside the fence while Jerry sleeps soundly next to the bulldogs. Production and Technical Details

The short is notable for introducing the definitive version of Scott Bradley’s trademark opening theme , which became the standard for most subsequent shorts in the series. Download 044 Tom Jerry Love That Pup (1949) mpg
